To build on the foundation established by the Mathematics for Engineering and Science (MES) course, the analysis of engineering systems requires the use of appropriate mathematical tools. This course will introduce students to the basic mathematical tools used to model and analyze the physical processes occurring in engineering systems. Topics include descriptive and quantitative methods, graphical techniques, and numerical methods. The class will introduce the fundamental concepts and formalisms for modeling, analysis, and design of aerospace systems.
This course is a 32-week in-house course taught at BAE Systems for students enrolled in the BAE ELDP program only and devoted to a broad review of engineering fundamentals, with emphasis on interdisciplinary topics related to Electronic Systems products and processes, technologies, applications, and problem solving techniques. Coursework includes a team-project and presentation to engineering management. Offered in Fall, 6 credits. Levels: Graduate, Undergraduate
The goal of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of Solid Mechanics and Thermal Analysis. Students will develop an understanding of how to perform the most common types of analysis on two- and three-dimensional solid objects. Students will develop an ability to apply the results of their analysis and gain some insight into the practical utilization of these results. Prerequisite: ME 535 or ME 541 or consent of instructor. 3 credits Levels: Graduate, Undergraduate
The course will introduce students to the fundamentals of numerical analysis, encompassing the basic concepts of numerical integration (namely, quadrature and direct methods), numerical differentiation, and subroutines and programming. The mathematical foundations of the finite element method will be developed using the standard notation and terminology of the subject. The course will be organized in a modular, self-contained manner, with emphasis on key topics and concepts.

This course will be an introduction of the concepts and tools needed to design and interpret advanced mathematical models and the practical problems arising from these models. Achieving this goal will require a focus on study, practice, and independent investigation.
