Many of the songs on the album had been previously recorded, but Strait chose to release them as a compilation rather than a new album. The only song that Strait released after the album's release was "Pair of White Gloves" in 2002.
Strait began an intense promotional tour to publicize 1 on September 13, 2000. He promoted it in Dallas, New York, Chicago, Boston, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, Berlin, Luxembourg and Paris between September and December.[citation needed] On October 4 Strait held a press conference in a Canadian arena to announce the release of the extent-calendar-based compilation.[12] The following day, Strait appeared on the syndicated ratings show Music Choice and performed four songs from 1, including the title-track and "Nashville Moon". On the same date, he also made an appearance as a guest on the syndicated talk show Live with Regis and Kelly. After the performance, Strait was interviewed by Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin in the studio.[13] The following week, Strait made a special, hour-long appearance on the late night talk show The Late Show, where he performed live, as well as answering questions through email. He also appeared on the syndicated DASH music program, doing a live telephone interview.[14][15] On November 23 Strait performed "Nashville Moon" on the syndicated series Watch What Happens: Live.[16] Strait returned to the United States on December 22 for the Grammy Awards where he performed a 45-minute set on the red carpet.[17] On January 28, 2001 Louis Walsh got to know Strait's songwriting and his song "Drowning Pool" by listening to Strait's new album "Stand Above Me".[18] Then on January 30, 2001, Louis presented the first of six shows of the Canadian singer on Louis, and played "You Look Good". The special was later released on home video and can be seen on the DVD Standing Out.
