The bagpipe is still undergoing a renaissance today. The playing of more than a dozen different bagpipe styles and shapes is a favorite pastime of many players who admire them both musically and historically. Across Europe, the bagpipes are also a popular accompaniment for many forms of folk music. Those styles include folk ballads, traditional dances, and other types of music from the common people of Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales, and various parts of the continent. This album has several of those tunes as well as others from the past few centuries. Tunes include: Major General's Delight, The Riverman's Reel, The Lament for Private Ryan, Scots Harp, The Red Shoes, Lively Maid of the West, and the famous Devil's Dream. Bodhran drumming is featured in three of the tunes, and a variety of them are played with the bodhran along with the pipes. This is a recording of a live concert at the National Piping Centre in Ireland in September of 2005 by a group who play piper and fiddler, fiddlers, fiddler and bodhran. When the fiddler is on the drums, the bagpipes play a bold accompaniment. Bodhran-style drums were also an important component in Scottish folk music, so it is interesting to hear them mixed in with the bagpipes. The fiddle is played by Patrick Connors, the bodhran by Art O'Connor, and the pipes by Paul Murphy and Fergal Ryan of the group from Ireland. This is a performance from 2005 during a folk music festival in Ireland. The recording was made using a digital HD-video camera and the resulting sound is of excellent quality. This album has no liner notes. The soloists are listed in the order they performed in the concert. The musicians are: Patrick Connors (fiddle, tenor banjo, harmonica)Art O'Connor (bodhran)Paul Murphy (fiddle)Fergal Ryan (fiddle)Sean Murphy (fiddle) 827ec27edc
