The Secret Circle is an American supernatural fantasy teen drama television series that aired on The CW from September 15, 2011, to May 10, 2012. It is based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith.[1] Set in the fictional town of Chance Harbor, Washington, the series focuses on Cassie Blake who, after moving to the town, discovers that she is a hereditary witch and becomes the sixth member of a secret coven. The series was developed by Andrew Miller and was picked up by The CW on May 17, 2011.[2] On October 12, The CW ordered a full 22-episode season.
The CW canceled the series on May 11, 2012. Ratings had declined in the second half of the season; the high costs of special effects and location shooting were also cited as reasons for the cancellation.[3]
In 2015, three years following the cancellation of the show, Gavin Hetherington of SpoilerTV looked back on the series finale, as well as the series as a whole. He reviewed the show favorably, commenting \"the last several episodes really built up the potential of the show and made it pretty exciting, and it would have led into an awesome second season\",[32] and saying that the show should have had a second season, \"to further develop the characters and the storylines we were left hanging with\".
A letter-writing campaign to Syfy was also launched, but ultimately the 'Save The Circle' campaign leaders decided against pursuing the network further due to budgetary concerns. Following the announcement that Warner Bros. had unsuccessfully entered talks with ABC Family about picking up the show and that the series would not be shipped to another network, campaigning targeting potential networks for a pick-up ceased.[42]Nevertheless, a new campaign,[43] aimed at Warner Bros, was launched following the announcement that the series' first season would not be released on DVD or Blu-ray.[44] As of September 2012, The Secret Circle is available on Netflix for immediate streaming.[45] A music project was launched, with the aim of developing and distributing a full-length album of 10 fan songs online and making them available for free download. Fans were asked to either submit an audio recording of themselves singing their own songs, or send in lyrics for potential use.[46] Petitions were also set up, in the hope that they would bring back the series. The three main campaigns together, as of June 24, 2012, amassed over 85,500 signatures.[47] Since the show was canceled, fans have voted it \"the show that will be missed most\" or \"Most Shocking Cancellation\" in a number of polls, including E!,[48] Clique Clack,[49] Hypable,[50] Spoiler TV,[51] TV Fanatic,[52] TV.com,[53] and Zap2it.[54]
I noted in the Secret Circle Round Table this week that there was an overabundance of teen girls and older guys in Chance Harbor, and this might be a clue as to why! Maybe the sexes skipped a generation. Most of the current circle lost their moms and the current circle was made up of girls... I had no idea what the formula was, but it's definitely not balanced to give everyone a fighting chance at love. Once again, I didn't know as I was watching that John chose Jake specifically to feel the \"curse.\"
The playing board for the end of the season is wide open. I have no idea what to expect. I hope the circle grows closer, that someone in the circle figures what John is up to and that the kids get some payback for being strung along all their lives. Their parents didn't much enjoy being puppets of when they were younger, but they don't seem to have a problem dropping that same crap onto their own children.
Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) is an average teen whose world is rocked when a fire kills her mother and forces her to movie into her grandmother's house in a small Washington town. Soon after she arrives, she learns that she's part of a coven of witches whose power is compete now that she's in the presence of her new peers, Diana (Shelley Hennig), Faye (Phoebe Tonkin), Melissa (Jessica Parker Kennedy), Adam (Thomas Dekker), and Nick (Louis Hunter). When she finds a letter from her mother confirming her identity, Cassie is drawn into a world of powers, curses, dangerous adversaries, and long-hidden secrets about hers and all of the families in Chance Harbor. Things get more complicated with the arrival Jake (Chris Zylka), who brings his own mysterious past to the mix, and later the return of Cassie's father, John Blackwell (Joe Lando), who has his own set of secrets to keep.
This fast-paced thriller rides the supernatural wave to certain popularity among teen viewers, who will find many similarities between the Twilight story and this one, which also follows a newcomer to a small northwest town with secretive residents and a mysterious history. Here it's witchcraft rather than yin and yang of werewolves and vampires, but it's the enticing suggestion that things aren't always what they seem on the surface that beckons to thrill-seeking viewers. Of course, drop-dead gorgeous stars and complicated love triangles don't hurt, either.
I've been watching The Secret Circle recently & was very impressed by it. I found it to be the best among Teen fantasy shows on TV. But it has only 1 season & was cancelled. Wikipedia tells me its based on a book series with the same name.
Before asking the actual question, a little context.I was a fan of Pretty Little Liars & after season 1, picked up the books. But i was mighty disappointed. Although the major plot points were similar, the path connecting them was much much better in the TV series than in the books. A completely different screenplay & episodic script.I was disappointed by the books & it spoiled the series for me.
So, now i want to delve into The Secret Circle books as the TV series as of now remains cancelled. So, does the books faithfully follow the season 1 of the Secret Circle. If not, what are the discrepancies. Also, should I go into reading the books.
The books and TV show are very different. I really enjoyed the show when I started watching it on Neftlix over the summer, so I read the book series after I finished the TV series. In my opinion, they really have very little in common other than the general premise of Cassie Blake discovering that she comes from a secret lineage of witchcraft. Beyond that, the major similarities are just names. The first thing to be aware of with the books is that the first 3 are written by the original author, and then they had a ghost author pick up the series when the TV show came out, and had her write 3 more for the series. There is a definite shift between the voices of the writers and the nature of the books, and the last three were designed to be more like the TV series, but still has very little in common with them. But, in terms of how they are different, the book series starts with Cassie and her mother (who is alive throughout the entire series) having to move to New Salem to take care of her aging grandmother. Cassie is bullied by Faye and her friends and can't seem to fit in until she finds out that she is initiated into a Circle. The main plot in the original trilogy is that the spirit of an ancient, evil witch is unleashed, and the Circle has to stop him before he hurts the mortal townsfolk and their Circle. There is no boat fire in the book, no witch hunters, or any of the other major plot problems in the TV show.I liked the TV show much better, and thought that it was written for an older YA demographic--the book series would maybe be more entertaining for pre-teens than teens. To avoid giving spoilers, there isn't as much of the supernatural/thriller/drama genres in the book series as in the TV series. Hope that helps!
A supernatural series, The Secret Circle follows teenager Cassie Blake (Britt Robertson) who, after moving to Chance Harbor, discovers that she is a witch and part of a young secret coven. The show also stars Thomas Dekker, Gale Harold, Phoebe Tonkin, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Shelly Hennig, Louis Hunter, Ashley Crow, and Natasha Henstridge.
When the season began, it looked like The CW had found the perfect match for their big hit, The Vampire Diaries. The premiere drew a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.05 million viewers. These days, those are excellent numbers for the smallest network.
I think they really should have a second season because I love the books so much it got me into the show and it was really amazing and Cassie and Diana should be able to meant the rest of their dads kids even of they are evil family should stick together right
I think their should be a season 2 on the secret circle because in season one episodes 18- 22 they were trying to end the fight between witches and hunters one in for all so they have peace. So this is my opinion that the tv show:The Secert Circle.
The Secret Circle was unfortunately cancelled by TheCW Network due to their ratings and the inability to fuel the production costs of the show. Many fans out there would like to see this show continue on with it's 2nd season despite having been cancelled over 5 years ago. While this seems like a long shot, it's certainly NOT impossible. The show, The X-Files ended over 10 years ago and is now seeing a revival with all original cast. Let us be hopeful for something incredible.
The first season was dramatically left with such an incredible cliffhanger - something that Netflix can surely successfully play with. I am in hopes that this will raise awareness and gain some sort of backing as I am sick and tired of seeing shows that have immense legitimacy be cancelled before their potentials are even seen. If you watch The Secret Circle on Netflix, you will see that every episode donnes a 5-star rating. I hope that this doesn't get ignored!
In addition to the vampire thing, Williamson was also the guy behind the soapy teen drama \"Dawson's Creek,\" which may explain at least part of the genesis for \"Circle.\" Basically, what he's done is to take the hormone-fueled teenage angst of
